The conservancy experiences two seasons, dry and wet. The dry season is from June to October. It is usually sunny in this period but it can still rain from time to time.

Jan and Feb are usually dry but there are some scattered showers. The long rainy season starts in March – May.

Best time to visit Masai mara

Prices might be a bit higher during this time but the experience is out of this world.

Jan to May is also a good time but the long rains make some of the roads impassable and wildlife sightings are less. You can get good deals during this time as it’s the low season.

Best time to visit Amboseli National Park

The best time to visit Amboseli National park is from June to October. This is during the dry season when most animals, particularly elephants, retreat to swamps to quench their thirst.

A number of camps and lodges are located around these watering holes which gives visitors a perfect chance to experience African wildlife up close.

This period also happens to be the peak season hence its recommended to book your tour in advance if you want to get a good deal.

Safari Cost

How to book your safari to Masai Mara or Amboseli

Now that you know what to expect from each park, it’s time to plan your safari.

The best place to start is to visit your local travel agency and enquire about their packages. Alternatively, you can  browse online on some of the big travel websites like travel advisor.

Once you find a package that suits you, take your time to compare the prices from different tour operators. Be sure to pack some warm clothing as early morning game drives are common because it’s the best time to see the wild animals.

Conclusions

Both the Masai Mara and Amboseli are great parks to experience African wildlife. While the Mara is the most famous of the two, Amboseli is not far behind.

If you want to experience the wildebeest migration, then a safari to the Masai Mara is your best chance to experience it. On the other hand if you want to come up close with huge herds of african bush elephants, then Amboseli is the place to be.

The best part is that you can visit the two parks as part of one larger package. Experience the wildebeest migration in the Mara then drive to Amboseli and experience all it has to offer and more.

To conclude, we cannot pick one over the other, they are both great parks and you’ll definitely get value for money regardless of which park you decide to visit.
